Redding bushing dies

The amount of resizing provided by conventional reloading dies has always been dictated by the manufacturing tolerances (SAAMI specifications) of the brass cartridge case itself. The first is their standard Full Length Sizing Die, which is cut a little undersized for the chamber of the cartridge it’s designed for. Redding offers dies for all popular cartridges in several configurations. I like Redding and Whidden bushing dies but will stick to Redding if I have a choice.


The Whidden seating die kinda pisses me off. Redding micrometer seaters and Forster BR seaters are preffered. For over years, Creedmoor Sports has been serving the precision rifle shooting community.

I have used the forster, Hornady and rcbs and sent them to JLC precision and had him convert to bushing Dies that I think are better than the Redding dies. The other dies seem to size the body a little all the way down to the base as it seems on some cases the Redding dies will push the shoulder back with out touching the body at all, I like to. Conventional, non- bushing full-length sizing dies can create ultra-accurate ammo with very low run-out. For some applications, we prefer a non- bushing FL die over a bushing die — so long as the neck tension is correct. But many FL dies have an undersized neck diameter so you end up with excess neck tension, and you work the brass excessively.


I want to try one or the other of these with my Blaser R93. I picked up a Type S full-length die in. We are often asked: “What size neck bushing is best for Lapua 6mmBR brass in a ‘no-turn’ chamber?


The questioner planned to purchase a Redding Type ‘S’ full-length sizing die with neck bushings. I read all this hub bub about how great bushing dies are and while they very well may be great, I have one major hang up. Guys recently changed over their 6. Lapua sizing dies to Redding Type S bushing style full length sizing dies.


While setting up the new dies we documented the procedure for the benefit of our audience and discussed the technique we use to measure shoulder setback. We both started out with Forster dies.
