Vaginal hymen

It forms part of the vulva, or external genitalia, and is similar in structure to the vagina. The hymen does not seem to have a specific physiological function and has few, if any, nerve endings. The most common hymen in young women is shaped like a half moon.

This shape allows menstrual blood to flow out of the vagina. More often, the diagnosis is made during the teen years.

This condition is one of the most common types of blockages of the vagina. An imperforate hymen is a thin membrane that completely covers the opening to the vagina. It remains intact until it is broken by most often sexual intercourse. The hymen is a piece of skin covering the vaginal opening in females.

Your hymen can be stretched open the first time you have vaginal sex, which might cause some pain or bleeding. But this doesn’t happen to everyone. And there are other ways that a hymen can be stretched open: riding a bike, doing sports, or putting something in your vagina (like a tampon, finger, or sex toy).

Not all girls are born with hymens, which makes this definition of virginity somewhat misleading.

How the Zulu tribe determines an intact hymen. Hymen repair or restoration surgery, also called hymenoplasty, is designed for repairing and reconstructing the thin, ring- like skin membrane that partially covers the vaginal opening. Restoration of hymen consists of closing the tear by bringing together the remnants. Though hymens can range in shape and size, most are shaped like a half-moon. In most cases, thorough visual inspection of the external genitalia, vaginal vestibule, and hymen structures is sufficient.

The vaginal vestibule is the space below the clitoris, above the posterior commissure, and between the labia minora. The supine frog-leg position is comfortable for most girls. It most often covers part of the opening of the vagina.

No one knows why this happens. Hymenal tags are excess tissues that stick out at the edge of the hymen. After years of nursing experience, the majority of this in women’s health, I have always thought the hymen was a thin membrane that partially covers the vaginal opening and could in some cases be torn by having sex or doing sport. ABSTRACT: At puberty, a patient with an imperforate hymen typically presents with a vaginal bulge of thin hymenal tissue with a dark or bluish hue caused by the hematocolpos behind it. It may be in different shapes in different people. It is widely known that first time intercourse can lead to light bleeding that signifies the membrane is torn in the act.

Physiologically speaking, its function is overlooked most of the time.

And truthfully speaking, a female will only be concerned about her hymen when it is torn, lacerate or too thick that it nearly covers the entire vaginal opening. The vaginal opening is at the posterior end of the vulval vestibule, behind the urethral opening. The opening to the vagina is normally obscured by the labia minora ( vaginal lips), but may be exposed after vaginal delivery. Hymen restoration (hymenoplasty) can be performed for torn hymen in patients who would like to restore their hymen.

The hymen can tear early in life due to reasons other than intercourse including heavy lifting, riding a bicycle or falling and traumatizing the vulva and vaginal opening. Perhaps you have, like many others, grown up believing that the hymen is a seal that bursts or breaks when you have sexual intercourse for the first time. However, this is a widespread misunderstanding. Contrary to what many believe, the hymen is not a ‘seal’ inside the vagina that is punctured when having sex. The hymen can easily break in many situations outside of intercourse, including vigorous activities such as horseback riding or gymnastics, the insertion of tampons, or even during regular pap smears.

A condition called a microperforate hymen occurs when your hymen is rigid and stretches all the way across your vaginal opening with only a tiny hole in the center. Obstructive longitudinal vaginal septum (LVS) Type with a complete vaginal obstruction but with a laterally communicating double uterus (Fig. 2). Longitudinal vaginal septum (LVS) with communicating uterine cavities Types and have similar clinical symptoms with regular menses, dysmenorrhoea, lower pelvic pain, paravaginal mass.

As the hymen pulls apart, it is generally painless and the pieces or “tags” of skin are left attached to the side of the vaginal opening. Since the tags often stay attached permanently, there is almost always some portion of the hymen that stays in place, even after insertions or full intercourse. Once your finger is inside, it can reach clear until the cervix without injuring the hymen tissue. When I have sexual intercourse for the first time, my hymen. There are many misconceptions regarding the hymen.
