What is the difference between a sorority and a fraternity? Is it worth it to join a fraternity or sorority? A form of the social fraternity , they are prominent in the United States and the Philippines, with much smaller numbers existing in France, Canada, and elsewhere. A “Recognized” fraternity or sorority is one that is in good standing with the university.

University recognized fraternities and sororities are also recognized by one of the three Greek governing councils – the College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, or the United Greek Council.
